The heat is on for the data centre industry to reach net-zero
13 Oct 2022
Data Centre World Keynote Theatre
Sustainable and competitive energy sourcing is a hot topic for the Data Centre industry. Several major players already match 100% of their annual electricity consumption with Renewable Energy and aim to do even more in the next decade, including net-zero across the value chain and 24/7 carbon-free energy. In some parts of Asia, such as Singapore, we have seen in the past few years several multi-dozen MW Solar Corporate Power Purchase Agreements signed between Data Centre operators and Renewable Energy providers. New technological innovations are being considered in conjunction with Renewables development, such as for energy storage Because of the data growth, there is a tremendous growth of power consumed by Data Centers globally.
There are many challenges in powering a Data Center. Of course most Data Centers are mission-critical, high availability facilities where a blackout is no option. That is why you have to install a sophisticated power supply.
Also, there is a social responsibility to build and operate Data Centers sustainably and implementing green technologies for your backup and continuous supply.
In this session, you will hear about proven and innovative power technologies which will support you on the journey to a net zero Data Center.and the use of green hydrogen. Looking ahead, what are the various opportunities and challenges in Singapore and across the region (national energy plans, systems interconnexions, regulatory frameworks etc) for a sustainable and competitive Renewable Energy supply that responds to the Data Centre industry’s needs?
